Bio

I am an artist who hails from the mountains of northeast Tennessee. In 2022, I received my BFA from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I am now based in Johnson City where I regularly perform shadow puppet shows. While I am most comfortable drawing by candlelight in my home studio surrounded by tall forest trees, I take great delight in traveling out on art adventures. Good stories are my source of inspiration, and I love wondering at the beautiful and true.

Artist Statement

My practice embraces many mediums, including drawing, illustration, ceramic sculpture, and puppetry (both traditional and experimental forms). I am a visual storyteller, seeking the communion of story, style, and humble material. The story is the life blood of every project. I am inspired by stories that hold deep meaning like Biblical stories, medieval and Arthurian legends, ancient histories, myths, fairytales, and folk tales. The rhythm and experience of a story is established through style. Style can be my own, developed through imaginative play, or I borrow it from the art and architecture of ancient times. Humble material draws the story out into our own physical world, so we can interact and wrestle with the story using our own hands, eyes, ears, hearts, and minds. Sometimes material is simply paper, cut or drawn to tell the story, or it can be clay, cardboard, fabric, wood, or any bits and bobbles that find their way into my hands.
